The 4th annual Adelaide Airport Ltd Putt for Parkinson’s Charity Golf Day will be held once again at the spectacular Blackwood Golf Club on Friday, 21st October  2011, to raise money for Parkinson’s SA.

Putt for Parkinson’s is a Charity Golf Day initiated in 2008 by Richelle Fowler, diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at age 17,  to raise awareness of the occurence of Parkinson’s disease, especially in younger people, and raise much needed funding for Parkinson’s SA.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disorder of the brain resulting from the degeneration of nerve cells in the part of the brain which helps regulate and control smooth movement throughout the body. These nerve cells produce dopamine, the substance that takes messages from one part of the brain to another, telling it how to control movements in the body. When there are fewer nerve cells, and less dopamine, fewer messages reach the brain. Simply, Parkinson’s is a disease of the brain that affects body movements.

Parkinson’s South Australia (PSA) is the not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting those who live with Parkinson’s disease, their families, friends, co-workers and carers. It is designed to be a support network, an information and service provider, as well as a place of understanding. All proceeds from Putt for Parkinson’s will be provided to PSA, to support in research for a cure, to provide equipment and resources, to assist in future fundraising events. All proceeds will support people with Parkinson’s disease and their loved ones.
